Trying to build the cheapest raceable bike ever.853

Anybody else done this?
I already bought a practically new Dura-Ace kit for $450. I'm asking guys that I know w/ Ultegra that want to trade up and give me some cash to throw back into my budget.
Now I just have to ask around and see if people have extra parts lying around at home that they want to sell.

We should have a contest to see who can build the best bike on a budget! No freebies, if you have parts asign them a fare market price. Anybody Game? :)

I'm thinking complete Ultegra bike for $600?

I just scored a low miles complete Ultegra 9 speed bike with 1000 miles on it for $420 shipped to my door. It's a GT ZR2000 -- a very crit-able bike (it's going to be a TT project).

But shoot, there's a college kid or two at our local race series who can throw down in a crit on late '80s piece 'o cr@p 7 speed treks that you could surely pick up for $150 bones (and maybe FAR less if you cruise garage sales). Invest another $50 for brand new bar-cons, and you don't even have to take your hands off the bar to shift.

Ebay is the freakin' bargain of the year right now. People just aren't buying themselves bikes in November and December. Do a search for less chi chi brands and you are sure to turn up a diamond (KHS, Fuji, GT, Felt, all come to mind).

Fifty buckaroos.
Used Sport touring bike from early eighties, put light wheelset on. Now its the commuter. Ok, I cheated and changed parts every so often but they were just plain worn out.

Three Hundred bucks.
Eddy Merckx early eighties, sewups with eddy "wolfgang munster" decal on headtube. All campy but now with retro Mavic 330 GL wheelset with Italia Vittoria CX front and CG rear. All's I gotta say is this, the faster I go the more I love this bike and the way it handles.

I'm working on winning a race...payola?
