|From todays' Chicago Tribune:
Owners of sport-utility vehicles will have to pay more for the privilege of owning SUVs, while diners at city restaurants will have to fork over more money in their checks, under a 2004 city budget approved today by the Chicago City Council.
After Jan. 1, owners of 33 SUV models weighing 4,500 pounds or more will have to pay a $90 vehicle sticker fee, compared with a $75 fee for lighter vehicles.
The higher fee applies to such giants as the Hummer H1, Cadillac Escalade and Ford Excursion, and mid-size models including the Oldsmobile Bravada, BMW X5, Lexus GX 470 and Acura MDX, according to a list compiled by city officials.
SUVs that barely escaped the list included the Ford Explorer, Honda Pilot, Mercury Mountaineer, Buick Rendezvous and Jeep Grand Cherokee.
