Cyfac vs. LOOK?(5 posts)

Cyfac vs. LOOK?orange_julius

I currently ride a LOOK KG361 and I'm considering
a Cyfac sometime in the future. As far as the LOOK
goes, I love its comfort and riding stability. I hate
the fact that the seatpost is 25 mm, and I can use a
bit more stiffness in the BB, and better handling in
descents. I'm willing to trade off a bit of comfort
for the other qualities, but not very much :-).

Cyfac seems to make really nice bikes, but I don't have
any friends who ride them. I would love to hear some
comments from Cyfac owners, especially comparisons
with more common bikes.

Thanks in advance.

I purchased a Cyfac XLR8R early this year and it is a wonderful bike. Columbus XLR8R tubing (obviously) with Muscle fork and rear triangle. The bike goes like liquid speed. I have had 2 Merckxs (MX Leaders), Trek 5500 and 5900, Giant (both carbon and aluminum models) and have ridden friends Colnagos, Bianchis etc. I have yet to ride a bike that accelerates (no pun intended) like the Cyfac. You press on the pedals and the bike squirts forward, almost feels like it will leave you behind. It is that impressive. It rides a little stiff, actually very stiff, but it is not annoying in any way. The only drawback I can find is that it doesn't descend as well as some other bikes I have had. Nothing that would make you not want to push the envelope, just not as "planted" as say the Merckx. I think that the Columbus Muscle fork maybe a little soft for me. I am a 5'10" ,185 lb. sprinter type. It goes up hill alot better than I can, if you get my drift. All around the Cyfac is a superb bike. I promised pics way back and I finally got a digital camera so I will try to post some tomorrow.

Thanks for the comments! I find the LOOK KG 361 to be
a little unforgiving on the descents, making corrections
when cornering somewhat twitchy.

I'm 5'10" and 176lbs, so your comments are very helpful.

Looking forward to the pics ...

My Look KG281 is way stiff enough for my 6'3" 205 body. No BB flex. I have a Cyfac too that is Columbus Airplane tubing and Carve rear seat stays. I flex the Cyfac at the BB. Don't get me wrong, the Cyfac is so well made and nice to look at but the Look has it topped in the comfort and the "I want to ride all day mode". If you move up to the KG481 I think you will be very pleased.

Thanks for the comments! I think the 281/381/481 LOOKs
have beefed up BB sections, so this could be the way to
go. I can live with a little less comfort, but not
much :-).
