So whaddaya think of this frames paint scheme?Live Steam

My LBS friend ordered on of these built-up for a customer. He now doesn't want it or he wants Klein to paint flowers on the seat tube and more on the stays.

I don't have a problem with the paint scheme and think more flower will really make it look like sh!t. I doubt I would actually buy it. It's kind of retro hippy which is sort of in now. Hey Old Ed you interested? :O)

Anyway, what's the opinion of klein frame paint schemes in general? This particular one? And what should Klein and my buddy do with the customer's request?
It looks ok...rwbadley

not really my style, but I bet it would look pretty good all built up with Record 10.

I don't like it. I have an old '99 Klein QR in the burnt orange/yellow combination ( I forget what they call it) and it took a while for me to get used to it. Some of Klein's paint schemes are sort of on the guady side. But it seems to me if the guy ordered it, he should eat it, flowers and all..maybe Klein will let him reneg on the order...the LBS should not be stuck with the frame...

I don't really care for the Hawaiian Lei (flowers) paint job. My favorite is Lava (below)... with DURA-ACE 10 :-).

But I have some advice for your friend at the LBS. He or she needs to rip the head of this customer and s*** down his throat. You just don't make a shop order a fairly expensive custom item, especially one with "unusual" traits, then change your mind when it arrives. The LBS, despite the motivation to be helpful and accomodating, should take an up-front 60% deposit (or whatever covers their cost) as idiot insurance before ordering items like this. Hopefully the shop did take a deposit in this case, and will refuse to refund it no matter what ...

In this same situation is to get at least a 20% deposit for the bike. Order it, and if the customer isn't happy, not too much recourse for them. It's a custom paint job. This bike had to be ordered under Trek's Project One program which has a form the customer fills out. It says that you are stuck with what you pick unless there is a flaw in the paint. So if there is no flaw, it's the customer's bike. Now if they don't want to buy it, that's fine, but I surely wouldn't give them their deposit back. I may make them a deal if they were a good and respected customer and that's that I would refund the deposit once I sold the bike, but I would hang on to it until then. I think that is fair. And I would tell them that any amount I had to discount the bike in order to sell it (within reason) would come out of their deposit. If I could sell it right away and for the price I was going to sell it to the person who ordered it for, then no problem, I would give them the refund, but not until it sold.

I would tell the guy at the LBS to offer this option up to the guy who ordered this bike... if they reject it, tell them to sell the damn thing themselves on ebay and wash their hands of the incident.

Just what I would do...

Sound advice. That's pretty much what I suggested and ...Live Steam

what their intention is. Klein responded that the paint, though it is custom and no two are exactly alike, was executed exactly as they portray on their web site and in printed literature. The issue has yet to be resolved with the customer.

What about the Klein bike? Have they started building them stronger? Does the paint job make it go faster......?

Add the shaved legs and the Spandex and you can almost hear the banjos strumming.

Old Billy Bob would have a Sweeet time tagging that one with his beat up old pickup truck.

Add in a hot pink ONCE team kit and you might as well put a bullseye on your back.

Just joking, but I guess I'm not man enough to ride a bike with that paint scheme.

Hopeful you are on the West Coast where the flower theme goes over better.
LOL :O) It's not mine. That was funny though...Live Steam
