I need help Selling a Framestillridn

I bought a Brand New Eddy Merckx Leader 60cm in Motorola colors with the Paycheck from my first real Job. This was in 1994. I have had the Frame hanging in My Office since, and never had a part hung on it. I want to sell it to Fund a new Bike (Specialized Allez Comp). Is this bike now collectible? I paid $1300.00 when I bought it. Any Merckx gurus know what she is worth. I do get a lot of compliments on it from clients. Centuries are not in my Future, I get out and go for 20 miles at a time a few times a week now.Thank You for the Help

Guess I replied to one of your earlier messages. If you still have the frameset, I'm interested. Thanks, jrabovsky@hotmail.com

Is it a MX Leader by chance? I would be interested if so? Have you posted it in the classifieds?

Sounds like the perfect bike for you. That thing won't flex much at all, even at your weight. It's probably the most overbuilt steel frame out there. I think you'd regret selling it for some mass-produced AL bike.

I was wondering what I should ask. I think $1200 sounds fair. I am also throwing in a long sleeve XL Motorola winter jersey I bought from Frankie Andreu. mhomer@mmm.com

First step is to post it in the classifieds or on ebay. People here can get a little testy if you try to sell something and don't post it in the classifieds. I think 1200 is a little steep since you can get a new one from GVHbikes for $1215.

If you are a bigger guy you should really consider keeping it for yourself. Throw some nice campy chorus compnents and a couple of Ksyriums and you will have more bike than many of of us are worthy of... There are very few frames out there that will be as durable or robust. Also dont think that it is a tank becuase it weighs a pound or two more than many new bikes out there. Afterall Lance won the world chamionships on the same frame...

good luck

I like Al bikes and there is certainly nothing wrong with an Allez. However, I would ride this Merckx over the Allez without even thinking about it. I just saw a Dura-Ace 9 speed build kit on special from Colorado Cyclist at a great price, 1299. That's what I would do.
