hooking the DA shift indicator up to campyishmael

I find I'm often looking at my rear casette while riding and I'd apreciate the shift indicator that Shimano DA has. Is it part of the Cable? I imagine that it could be cut off and threaded as a link of cable houseing. Maybe using the metal link cable housing could work well
where would you put it?DougSloan

For Shimano, it fits right outside the shifters, replacing a section of cable housing. For Campy, the housing his hidden under the bar wrap until it descends to the downtube. That wouldn't be very convenient place to look.

Also, if the cable pull isn't the same, then the indicator won't line up right.

If I were doing this (and I've thought about it) I would put the indicator on the top of the flat section of bar near the stem--just before the cable housing leaves the tape to go to the stop.

Hmm. You'd need some extra bar tape probably, but you could bring the shift cable out, leaving the brake cable wrapped, plop one end into the indicated, and take the other end and connect it to some housing that goes back under the tape and then along its normal route to the stop.

I don't know whether this would work or not, but it would surely give you a relative sense of your gearing. Since I'm playing with friction DT shifters these days, I've haven't investigated it any further...
no, I wouldn't do it like that.ishmael

I was hopeing that the indicator would be seperate or seperateable from the rest of the cable. In which case I'd have the cable going from the shifter under the tape as usual and then put it right where the cable came out from under the tape. The device is pretty simple- regardless of the amount of cable pull (unless campy's is too much) it should be of value.

yes, that would be an inconvenient place. Indeed. I hadn't thought of that.

no,,I'd put it right where the cable came out from the bar tape. I'm going to ask if anyone has an extra DA cable with the indicator that they would part with or trade for.

Ask your bike shop about getting one. I know the local on I go to has a lot of them, because a lot of people don't use them. I find the thing pretty useless.
