Treasure in my basement?? Old Bicycling mag. worth $$??JBergland

Last night while digging through some old boxes that have been storied away for a couple years I came across an old Bicycling mag. that I'd saved. It was Oct. 1999 ed. with Lance on the cover, arms raised coming across the finish line, looking towards the ski. I thought it was cool looking cover so I kept it. While looking at it last night, it seemed ‘different'. The only thing on the cover is a pic. of Lance with ‘Bicycling' at the top. everything else is black. I stopped by the library during lunch today and looked up that specific issue of Bicycling. in the archived area. The mag. I looked at was much different than the one I have at home. full color with descriptions of what to expect inside. I went back to my office and e-mail Bicycling directly. They said it must have been an accident and I should consider myself lucky. Now, if I could only get this sucker signed by Lance, I could afford that new bike!!:)

Anyone else remember getting the all black or full color copy of Bicycling??

Or not.

The black cover was only sent to subscribers. The newstand edition was a regular cover. There should be a note about that in the magazine. I doubt it's worth anything. If it is, I have one I'd like to sell.

Lance "looking toward the ski" is when he crossed the finish line to win at Sestriere. I think it's probably the best Lance photo ever taken.

Why do you suppose Bicycling didn't know/pass on this info??

They have shed a lot of people and joined forces with Mtn. Bike mag. I bet the person you talked to had no clue.

At least he's relegated to the Mountain bike "Supplement" that comes with Bicycling...though I didn't see it this month. Wonder if it got cancelled.
haven't read the lastest issue. Don't have 5 minutes to spare:-)Dave Hickey

I think the toilet is the only place worthy of Bicycling these days. Thank goodness it is a cheap subscription or I'd cancel in a second.

I think you'll definitely get something for it. There are folks who collect anything. Seriously. Start it at about $25. The words "rare" and "Lance Armstrong" would seem to ensure some kind of market.

I seem to remember that the subscription ones were different from the newsstand ones. Doubt it's worth anything but Ebay it. There all all kinds of suckers out there.
