|I grabbed a map and followed Rt. 40 across the US just out of curiosity. One place the caught my attention is Flagstaff, AZ. There is good MTBing there. I vacationed in Sedona, AZ for a week (just south of Flagstaff) and the off-road riding was great. The locals told us we should go to Flagstaff for better stuff but they already had snow.
Even road riding in that area would offer great views.

|when will you be coming through here? depending on the day of the week, there may be decent rides going on, or 'cross racing. nov 14 there's a night ride. i'll be riding in st louis on sat nov 15 but there should be a couple folks in town who'd show you 50 miles of rural tarmac. nov 16 we have a practice 'cross race that you'd surely enjoy.

|I grew up in Northern AZ (Holbrook). I'm assuming road rides here. The painted desert and petrified forest national park near Holbrook would be a nice ride and it would start right on 40. Sedona is also only 30 miles or so from I-40 at Flagstaff so you could have a nice ride from Flag or ride from the top of Oak Creek canyon on 89 to Sedona and back. But the traffic may be bad. You'll have a big climb going back towards flagstaff coming out of oak creek canyon. But the views are great!

|on the switchbacks in the canyon. Also, almost all of the ride would be under the trees, making for some pretty low temps.|

|Good point, I guess the traffic would be a little more than when I went to NAU in the early 80's. As for the temps, Suck it up man;>!
