Considering buying a trainer. When i ride on the road I go out for two to three hours. I don't see how, even with videos and music, I could last for that long in my basement. I want to train this winter but not torture myself. anyone have some ideas??

The consensus is that as part of the macro periodization of your year, you should have a period of building the base. This does not require 2-3 hours per day. If you're a world class rider, then focus on warm weather training camps, motorpacing, etc. If you're like most of us, use your indoor work to reduce your volume and do some cross training. If you get rollers, you can work on your skills and get a lot more out of the winter experience. Not every ride, every day, every week, every month should be at summer intensity and volume. Get Fred Matheny's or Joel Friel's book and use it to structure your winter. IME, 40 minutes every other day on the rollers, alternating with an XC ski machine brings me to the spring only slightly slower and with only slightly less endurance than I had in the fall.
