|So..is life telling me to ride today??||PaulCL|
Oct 31, 2003 10:08 AM
|Reasons to ride:
Its' 75 degrees and sunny
Its' Halloween - a semi holiday
I've spent 10 minutes in my office today after running to the dentist for my son who chipped two teeth.
I just dropped aforementioned son back at school and I came home for lunch.
Did I mention that its' 75 degrees outside
And the coup de grace(spelling): My assistant just called to tell me that one of my clients just made an unexpected investment which netted me ...well...let's just say a nice bit of coin. Enough to dissuade me from getting in my car, driving downtown, parking, going to the office only to leave 2 1/2 hours later.
Reasons to go back to work:
A slight amount a the puritan work ethic guilt.
Screw it! I'm outahere. Have a nice weekend everyone. Be safe tonight. Eat lots of candy and ride lots of miles.

|I'm stuck in a jar with no windows an know it's nice outside. I just finished my self performance appraisal and realize there's no hope for the future.
Needless to say, I'm envious!

|Got a pass from the Boss at work (we won a case that has caused me to sweat blood the last few weeks), and so I just took off. Did a solo round trip of the W&OD trail (Lunch in Leesburg) on the fixed gear. Nice day. Just noodling along. Complete mental flush. Totally unplanned.|

|Back in San Diego now, fire free I might add. Riding tons, loving the Dean for all it's worth, including some fine climbing characteristics that I never got to know in NOLA.
Life is good.
How 'bout you?

|Very busy with the domestic and work stuff. Soccer/school/fun with the kid...balls out at work for a bit...so the riding has taken a bit of a hit. The Dean has been out of commission while they sorted a seatpost problem. I have to get time to haul the frame and pile o'parts over to Curly, the ace mechanic. I usually do my own work, but Curly is gooooood.|

I got an easy 30 miles in. I planned on 40, but a gash in the rear tire made me limp home. I had to boot the tube with a Cliff Bar wrapper and patch the inside of the tire. But who cares?? It's Friday, its sunny, its 75 degrees, I'm not at work, I'm on my bike - life is good. I'll be doing 70 miles on Sunday.
MMMMMMMM.......Good! As I type, I'm sipping on a Michelob Ultra. Nothing like a cold beer after a ride! Cheers!

|This IS a good day....century in the morning, then trick-or-treating with the neighborhood kids (I chaperoned a good-sized gang of ten-year-olds. I was the biggest 10-year-old in the pack!). I have a fellow Team Lardbutt riding buddy in the neighborhood who slipped me a beer when we hit his house for candy. Gotta love those Lardbutts...|

|I trick or treated with my son (age 5) and two neighbor kids plus their dad. I brought a small cooler with 6 beers in it - we put it in the wagon. During our 'travels' we ran into two other Dads in need of nighttime, adult libations. So, we shared. As we got to a house at the end of the street (owned by one of the guys we gave a beer to), his wife filled up our cooler. Ain't Halloween great!!
After walking and drinking, walking and drinking for an hour we went home to our wives. My wife and my neighbor's wife were sitting on our front porch, handing out candy with one hand, drinking wine with another. Buzzed wives. Ain't Halloween great!!
After trick or treat hours, we all went to a neighborhood chili party (that's Cincinnati Chili - an acquired taste). This is the home of a friend who had a wine tasting party last Saturday. A party so good, that I wasn't physically up to riding the next day. He had several bottles of very, very good Cabernet Savignon left over. So we killed a couple. Ain't Halloween great!!
What a day: in the office for 5 minutes, made a few bucks, rode my bike, played with the kids, dranks lots of beer, went to a party, drank lots of wine. And tomorrow, I ride 70 miles!
