After having a new Ultegra bottom bracket installed in my Talon I now hear
what sounds like chain rub with no visible contact with the front derailleur.
Two shops have done adjustments but the noise only is heard when I ride.
Can a bottom bracket problem mimic a chain rub sound ?

fantom noises are very hard to trace
but if you that the BB out and reinstall it; it would likely go anyway -- if not the axle wrong length and you chain line is bad
another opinion is put on a new chain and see if it comes away --
i always just change parts until I isolate the noise
and it stops

Could be the spot where it is rubbing on the big chainring. I had this problem when I was in the 39/14 combo and below. I changed back to a shimano chain from a SRAM and now all is well.

Does the noise happen in either/both chainrings? every gear? only when crosschaining (small ring/small cog, big ring/big cog)? pedaling backwards? coasting? Was the old BB an ultegra? same size? for sure?
