The 03 KHS Flite looks like a fair amount of bike for the money (lack of brand cache not withstanding). Review section of the site is short on 03 reviews.

Anyone have opinions about the Flite 800 (or KHS in general)?

I bought a Flite 800 frame a couple of years ago. I loved it (sadly it met with an untimely demise which was no fault of the frame). Super smooth ride, light for steel, reasonably stiff in the BB. It's a real sleeper. Everyone I rode with was surprised and impressed by it. If you want raceable steel and don't mind that you're not riding something with more "brand cache" as you said I'd get one. With your eyes closed you can't tell it from an IF crown jewel, I don't recommend trying the blind test though, just take my word for it. This bike will never hold you back.

I have a friend who rides one. It's a pretty nice bike for the money. It's an 853 main frame, and full Ultegra. For the price it's spec'd nicely. I would say if you can get it for around $1500 right now in your size, it's a great deal. But I wouldn't really pay much more than that right now on a 2003 bike. If a shop has them in stock, they want to move them to get in 2004's. The shop I work at is moving 2003 Lemond Buenos Aires for around that price. The Lemond isn't quite as nicely spec'd as the KHS, but they retail price is about the same. So you should be able to get the bike in the $1500 to $1600 price range.
