Apparently Jo Dee Messina is a cyclist. I know that racecar driver Paul Tracy and actor Robin Williams are also cyclists.
What other celebrities or politicians are true (Madonna doesn't count) cyclists?

Remember the jerky character named Kirk from the Judd Hirsch show "Dear John"? I saw they guy who played him at a local bike shop buying stuff. He had shaved legs, a serious cycling tan, and appeared to be in pretty damn good shape. I didn't know his name, so I did a search on him and he's Jere Burns. According to this bio, he's done some triathlons:

It seems like I'd be able to do better than that living in LA.

O'Keefe was also married to Bonnie Raitt. Although Noonan is certainly a pop culture icon, O'Keefe turned in a really solid piece of acting as Robert Duvall's son in the Great Santini.

Jerry Seinfeld, I think that he always had a mountain bike hanging around the apartment.

The other is a comic strip author, Jef Mallett. He always has cycling references in his cartoons. Even today's cartoon has some references (check the chalk board).

It's actually Michael Richards that is the enthusiast, and a Klein enthusiast at that. Somebody either switched frames or removed the Klein from the set, I'm not sure which, and Richards (Kramer) pitched a fit and the Klein reappeared.

Jerry doesn't ride. Michael Richards does. He played Kramer. The story of the bikes in Jerry's apartment goes like this....

When the set designers were making up the set for the pilot, Jerry had a road bike in the corner by the window. (Remember that even though Jerry never moved on the show, he had about 4 different layouts for his apartment thru the show's history.) The layout for the pilot (the only episode without Elaine as a character) only showed up once. After the pilot they decided to have a bike hanging on the wall as they thought Jerry would be the clean type of person to hang up a bike when done. (They also alphabetized the cereal boxes in his cabinets...)

OK, here's where the story get's fun... so they were originally going to hang an old beat up looking road bike, but Richards (Kramer) rides a Klein. He convinced the set designers that Jerry should have a nicer trendy bike because he was suppossed to be a fairly successful comedian on the show. Richards contacted Klein and they gave them a green Adroit to hang. It hung their for the first 5 seasons (maybe 4, I forget) and for a full season it even had the fork mounted backwards on it. Aparently, nobody noticed it.

Then the Cannondale incident.... Cannondale at this time (93 or 94, don't remember) wanted to put one of their new "Delta V" frames on the set. They made a deal with the producers to get every one a bike and pay a small fee (remember this wasn't the no.1 show yet) and they hung a blue and white Delta V 500 where the green klein was. It hung there for 4 or 5 episodes before Klein upped the ante. Cannondale gave bikes to Seinfeld (his actual bike showed up on ebay about 3 years ago, apparently never riden) Richards (the avid cyclist of the show) and the top 2 writters (one of which was a cyclist) and the producers.

From what I was told by the Cannondale rep at the shop I worked at during this time, the people on the show wanted bikes for every major cast member (Julia Louis-Dreyfus didn't want one and neither did Jason Alexander) but for all the major crew members as well. About 17 to 20 more bikes. Cannondale didn't want to give away that many bikes. They didn't think the show was worth that big of an investment (again, keep in mind this was not a top rated show yet, just a funny quirky show that NBC couldn't figure out where to put it) but on the other hand, Gary Klein thought it was worth it for him. This is back when Klein was still handbuilding all his bikes and long before Trek bought them out. Also, Richards already rode a Klein that he paid for.. so he helped push the deal to get Klein back on the set. Klein built a ton of bikes for everyone and the green Klein hung on the rack for the rest of the show's run. There were about 2 or 3 episodes where it was gone in the 7th season when they made another set change and changed Jerry's apartment, and a bunch of people wrote NBC to ask about it... the bike was next shown back down the hall a little further than it used to be... away from the bathroom towards what must have been Jerry's bedroom (which was never actually shown except in the "Master of your own domain" episode where they showed Jerry tossing and turning in bed.) The bike crept back up the hall to a more visable spot where it stayed for the rest of the show.

Everything you ever wanted to know about the bikes on Seinfeld and then some....

I hear Jerry's been seen riding around central park on a road bike.

But I personally saw him at last year's NYC Bike Race standing right by the start/finish line. Lance adn others all spoke with him. He stayed through the finish.

Someone else in this thread posted something about him recently becomming a cyclist... he may ride now, but he didn't then. As someone else pointed out, Michael Richards was an avid cyclist when that show was on the air, and he was a Klein fan too.

WINNING of June 1987 says (in part), "Eric
Clapton, legendary blues guitarist whose work with the Yardbirds, John
Mayall, Cream and Blind Faith during the '60s established musical trends
still evident today, also had some pretty fast legs before his fingers took
over and made him a star. The man....was a promising amateur cyclist in his
youth and he has maintained his fondness for cycling. Now in his forties,
Clapton lives near Milan, Italy,....and is frequently seen walking through
the doors of the GRAN CICLISMO shop on Via Folli. Recently he went one step
further-to the Cinelli factory in Milan, where he picked up a made-to-order
Cinelli Super Corsa. As per his request, the factory inscribed Clapton's
bright red machine with his nickname, "Slowhand".

Also, don't forget all the members of Kraftwerk!
This won't mean much to many of you but Burton Cummings is a pretty avid bike collector and sometime rider as well.

RBR regular Dave Hickey stopped by the shop today and we had a nice talk even though madness was the order of the day.

Jo Dee Messina was at the shop too, saw her last night as well and she has a bigger entourage than Lance....

And I have a funny story behind it too, but I don't feel like typing it up.

When he came in to pick it up, Kelly Preston came with him... she is ungodly hot! Has to be the best looking woman I have ever seen, and I grew up with Angie Everhart as a neighbor.

There were a couple of comericals a few months ago where James Carville (aka sperpent head) was shilling for Inphone. The comerical just had his voice and the shot of someone sitting on a bed with just legs in view. We was wearing bike socks and maybe even had shaved legs.

Does anyone know more?

Watched Leno one night and they flashed a pic of Seinfeld on a road bike. Apperantly he is pretty new to the sport. He had Leno preface every question "As a cyclist..." so "As a cyclist, What's your new book about?". He even scolded him at one point for calling him a "biker".
