|As I was on my way home from school today I started to wonder if there are any companies that make a cheap (~$100) commuter bike? I couldn't think of any off the top of my head. You guys and gals know any?|

|You might be able to find a used bike around that much that would certainly be better than any $100 new bike.|

|In Austin we have a operation called the Yellow bike project. They are the dumping ground of choice for people with old bikes that get left at shops or want out of their garage.
Their plan was to leave yellow painted bikes all over Austin with the hopes of people taking a bike when needed and leaving it when finished for someone else. I think they started with 12 bikes and those only lasted a few short days (maybe it was weeks). Anyway, they now sell cheap project bikes and frames to people. Maybe their is something like that in your area.
Also scour the pawn shop circuit. A kid showed up the other day a the shop with a nice Paramount he'd just bought for $75--it wasn't pristine but a damn nice bike worth way more than $75. Hell, I offered him $150 for it.
