You gonna ride that cassette up Brasstown?!!!Mike P
Oct 16, 2003 7:06 AM
I've been waiting for the pics! NICE! There's something about the Merckx frames that just say "TAKE ME HOME AND RIDE ME LIKE THE ANIMAL I AM!" isn't there?

I guess you've been working on the leg strength if you think you are going to turn those gears up Brasstown Bald!

bb will see nothing short of a triple + xt. this bike will only see brasstown from a car.

I did put a 27 on for the arkansas climb last weekend. it helped.
Need to email me your address so I can send you the bill.hrv

Because you very well may have set off an incurable case of 'have-to-get-a-new-frame-and-and-build-me-up-a-bike' -itis!

Without this post I might have been able to go another year...damn you!

That stem -- ouch!Dropped
Oct 16, 2003 7:21 AM
Beautiful bike, but that stem is like a zit on the nose of a beauty queen. I wince when I look at that beast. ;)
actually i find it quite appealingJS Haiku Shop
Oct 16, 2003 7:49 AM
they're not made anymore and gary couldn't lay hands on one, so this one was NOS off ebay. i have the alter girl pin-ups ready at home, just haven't decided on which one, yet.

to each his own; i could not conceive of any other stem on this beauty. imho it's a TCB look.
Looks great, but is she a go-er? (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) nmDale Brigham

a nod's as good as a wink to a blind batJS Haiku Shop
Oct 16, 2003 7:54 AM
she sometimes goes, yes.

all go and some show, though the rider is a slow fat guy.

climbs like a dream; descends like riding in the front car of a roller coaster (eats sharp banked curves for lunch). very stiff, though; not a double century ride. would probably carve-up road races and crits, if had the brass 'uns to put her in harm's way.
Say no more, guv'ner, say no more! (nm)Dale Brigham

Oct 16, 2003 9:53 AM
Beautiful and Functional, I always settle for Functionalbigrider
Oct 16, 2003 9:27 AM
How does the ride compare to your other rigs? What is the longest ride you have done on this beauty?
jury's still outJS Haiku Shop
Oct 16, 2003 9:57 AM
i'll also always take functional over beautiful, but my stable screams FUNCTIONAL, so that's under control. this one is both...with a generous second helping of "beautiful" if you like, or "flashy" perhaps.

so far only 2 outings, with ~50 miles (3 mountain ascents, ~7000'+ climbing & descending) as the longest ride. stiff, responsive, stiff, shiny, stiff, nice to look at, and stiff. it won't go on any >100 mile rides. but that's not its reason for existing.

right now i'm content to park it in the living room and stare. lucky mrs. haiku is out of town.
Hey, baby, how much? (nm)jma24
