My Hotmail account goes over size every 30 minutes now. What's up with that?

I get a total of 6-8 messages/day of which 1 or 2 are junk mail. I set up my junk mail filter to maximum and auto delete.

I just use mine as my email address for usenet. I don't ever check it. It acts as my spam depository.
Well, its been through several changesKristin

At first it was my spam account. Then I gave it to a couple friends. So it became my friend/spam account. Then I tried to create a new spam account, but that never works. So now its my everything but work account. If I felt like doing lots of work, I'd create a new "friend" account, but that's...well...a lot of work. :-P

I didn't have my junk folder set to empty automatically, because some valid things find there way in there. But in light of the new spam craze, I've had to do just that. I suspect this is more of an attack than spam, but its not a very good attack.

This is a worm attack that's been going on for a couple of weeks or more. I think it's called SWEN. E-mail addresses were harvested off Usenet, and bombarded with obviously forged virus e-mails from "Microsoft" about a "patch". Your address also gets used for forged spam headers, so some of your junk e-mail is "returned messages" or "message undeliverable" notices.

I find that it's eased up quite a bit in the past week. Peak was hundreds of messages a day. I had been using a Yahoo! address that I don't care about for Usenet. But the virus crap annoyed me, so now I just use a fictitious address.
I'm such a bad email admin.Kristin

My earthlink account was bombed by that--still get messages today. One says it is an update from Microsoft and another says some version of mail failure.

It's a virus/worm that's being going around for a couple weeks. I have to empty the junk/bulk mail box in my email account every day or it fills up. It's enough to make me want to find another ISP. My email filters most SPAM out and sticks it in a junk mail folder, but it maxes out the memory if I don't clear it out regularly.
