I have a 9-speed mavic helium wheel(shimano), can that work with 8-speed campy. If it can, what do I need to make it work?

8 speed shimano cassette and a red Wheels MFG cassette conversion kit. See BranfordBike.com
Kit is about $15-$18

I have Heliumsthat I now run on 9 speed Campy, but used to run on 8 speed.
Before you buy the kit, try replacing the loose spacers from the shimano wheel, with Campy spacers, if you have any.
If I remember it's only 3 or 4 spacers you can replace. I know that makes the spacing on the bottom different than the top cogs, but it work perfectly for me. The floating top pulley handled this difference.
Just something to try, if you have the spacers.
BTW, I ran this on a Cannondale & a Giordana TI

The Wheels Mfg spacers with a Shimano cassette give an exact Campy 8 speed spacing. ... The Shimano hyperglide cogs shift better than 95-97 Campy 8 speed cogs. The new Campy 10 speed cogs shift just as good as Shimano.

Actually, Campy 8 used the same spacing (5mm C-C) as Shimano 7 speed, so if you use the seven speed spacers (3.1mm, plastic) it should be okay. Don't worry about the smallest cog with an integral spacer - the last shift is controlled by the derailleur limit screw, not the spacer.

8 speed Shimano isn't much different -- 7 speed and 8 speed use 3.3mm spacers for the first two cogs (smallest) then the rest are 3.1mm for 7 and 3.0mm for 8. Often Campy 8 will index fine with a standard Shimano 8 speed cassette.

You can probably salvage 3.1mm spacers from an old cassette...
