C-50, Pinarello, DeRosa, Merlin or Serotta?(19 posts)

C-50, Pinarello, DeRosa, Merlin or Serotta?tarwheel
Oct 7, 2003 8:39 AM
The tires are worn out on my Litespeed, so it's time for a new bike. Plus, I've paid off the Hummer, so I'm looking for something to blow a little spending change on. Bike will be used mainly for trips to the coffee shop, but I'm also considering racing. The Tour da France conflicts with my annual beach vacation at the Hamptons, but I a trip to Italy in May might be nice and the Gyro sounds like it would be a more enjoyable and scenic ride. Here are the bikes I'm considering:
-- Colnago C-50
-- Pinarello Dogma
-- DeRosa King
-- Merlin Ceilo
-- Serotta Ottrott

Which one of these bikes is the best? What size should I get? Which is the most expensive? Which one do chicks dig the most? What kind of aerobars should I get? And, oh yeah, Campagnolo Record or Shimano DuraAce?

The big Scott Greg Lemond era aero bars, mounted high and tilted up so that you can just see over your knuckles.

More points if you find a set in day-glo orange and green fade.
Will they be making a "Ferrari" C-50? That'd be perfect ;-) (nm)geeker

Get them all and one of each sizebimini

They are all nice bikes. If I were you I would get all of them. Since you don't know what size you need, you might as well get two of each size. One with Campy and one with DuraAce.

Then you can try them out. If you don't like the bike or the size or how it's equipped, just send those to me.

If you want to impress the chicks, I recommend you get a Farrari with a bike rack for each bike. Most chicks could care less about a bike or a biker dude, put a Farrari, Well!!

PS: You can also send the Farrari's you don't like to me.

you can't say "paid off the hummer" and "something to blow" in the same post on a moderated forum, much less in the same sentence. really, do you have NO self-control?
does Surley make a carbon & ti model?tarwheel

Also, does Carradice make an alligator or crocodile leather version of its seatbags? I really dig those bags, but canvas just doesn't go with carbon or ti. Rattlesnake would be OK, I guess, but I prefer stuff made from endangered species.

just for trips to the coffee shop, how are you going to get back home?
Plus, I don't think you should go to Italy for the Gyro.djg

I think you should go to Greece for the Gyro.

But here in Cary Serottas are the what's cool.
You gotta get a custom one!
Get yourself on the size cycle.
I am sure you need a 75 angle seat tube!
For sure custom is your only option!
Nothing else will do!

Seriously

If you cant get one, go for an Eight.
There one up on Seven.

A Colnago C-60 is better than everything.

Go for the 11 speed!

You didn't say anything about Lance or 10 speeds or head tube angles or getting the right fit.

You need the Huffy Ti bike with aero bars, cup holders (if you don't finish your coffee at the shop you can ride home with it) and training wheels....
