Wanted: Italy road ride suggestionspaul w

We're going to Italy this month for vacation, and would like to ride while we're there, of course! We'll be in Rome, then the Amolfi coast, then possibly up near the lakes and Alps, but that is tentative.

Any ride route, rental outfitters, and other suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Grazie!

tours. I don't know enough about the geography or exactly what Matt has going to say whether any of it may work for you, but he's a good guy (not the best correspondent in the world, but he'll get back to you) who also sells stuff and presumably could hook you up even if you already have your travel plans basically booked.

Here's a hotel we stayed at where we did the majority of our riding:

There are bike rentals through this bike shop in town:

If in Florence, this shop has good racing bikes for rent:

All of the shops have maps on what rides to go on. But I highly suggest staying at the Zi Martino. VERY cycling friendly.

I personally stayed in the Southern Tuscany region to do most of our road riding, and was glad I did, although cycling southern Linguria was very nice! (Portofino, Cinque Terra, etc.)

I was ultimately glad that I brought my bike over instead of having to rent, and if I had to do it all over again, I would have rented a car.

One note on renting a car in italy...if you are going to be there for over 17 days, you can actually LEASE a car for way less than you'd rent it for, direct from the manufacturer.

A vehicle I recommend in Italy with bikes and luggage:

Renault italy leases the cars direct.

How are you liking the IF? Any issues (Stiffness, Paint, etc) now that you've got some miles on the bike?

Any feedback would be appreciated...
