I headed to Grand Junction / Fruita this weekend for some late season riding. The ride through Colorado Monument is a classic and is one of my favorites. This time of year there is very little traffic and you can spend a little more time enjoying the scenery.

As you climb out of Fruita, you can see the entire town layed out on the valley floor.

Once you get above the visitors center, the rocks become the centerpiece of your attention.

This is a special part of the world and it's reletivly undiscovered by the crowds. The forces that created this beauty are beyond comprehension.

It kind of reminds you of a classic bike movie doesn't it?

I did this ride in March, and I must say, it is one of the most spectacular rides I have done. The scenery is breathtaking, there is little traffic and the descent at the end is fantastic. It is a great workout of climbing to get to the top but it is worth every foot of incline!
Spectacular pics!! Thanks! (nm)CHRoadie

I flew into Grand Junction while on my way to Moab. We took a "detour" on our way to go up to the monument. Breath taking views that had me crying for my road bike.

I'm gonna have to go home and watch American Flyers again.
thnx for pics, very beautiful indeed nmcyclopathic
