|$.86 per mile report: stealth Look KG286||JS Haiku Shop|
Sep 29, 2003 7:39 AM
|purchased quite some time ago from chucksbikes.com and built-up on august 17 (my first home assembly) with a 2002 shimano 105 kit from gvhbikes.com. total invested approximately $935 including shipping. i have put just under 1100 miles on the bike, including three centuries, the local ms150, a double century, and yesterday's duathlon.
it's all good. a stiff frame that climbs well and is not a pig (tho i don't care much about weight), feels stiff in sprints and under big stress, and doesn't beat me up. the 105 components have been reliable so far, and i've been happy and not wished for more (i also have/had chorus and ultegra, and have ridden other 105 bikes in the past).
the cosmos wheels are pretty but seem a little touchy--after just two little wrecks they are a bit out of true. maybe it's just my perception of <32 spoke wheels. they've been hanging up unshod for most of the bike's young life. i'll touch them up and keep 'em for climbing rides. nice to look at, though. bike is pictured here with 32h open pro/ultegra wheels from my cross-check.
cinelli bar tape always tears when i wrap it (tight). i do prefer nashbar generic tape for this reason.
the heasdset i bought from chuck was garbage (you get what you pay for!). i replaced it with the cane creek c2 from the gvh kit; no problems since.
other than that, she's a beauty!
pics to follow.

|deda bar, cinelli groove stem, profile airstryke aeros. purchased the profiles from ebay; they're older, and were used, but arrived in near-mint condition, with spacers, extra pads, and computer, for around $35.
setup as seen, i can stay in an aero position all day long.

|that brooks looks a little old fashioned and maybe out of place, but i can sit on it all day long and then some. it's tilted slightly nose-down, making for a more comfy "aggressive" position on the bike. it really dwarfs my little seatpack (jandd 30 ci).|

|a little scuff on the back from a grav-check on its second outing...a little wear on the nose, exacerbated by rain rides. character, my friends, character. this is a b17 narrow from wallbike.com.|

|trek bat cages (lance cages). haven't launched a bottle yet, and they look pretty cool, too. took one off for yesterday's ride, so i could look more euro. :)|

|You get a Look, soon you won't want to ride any of your other bikes. It's addicting. Don't say I didn't warn you! =) BTW-nice ride!|
|corncob pipe and a button nose...||JS Haiku Shop|

|ok, forget that other stuff. just the corncob. it's the 11x21 courtesy of "baneser" that's had me gettin' faster and "enjoying" rides so much since birmingham's DC. i ordered the kit with a 25, and it's been collecting dust, waiting for the next mountain outing.|

|ok, so i've already dropped the chain on the inside and put a nice gouge in the bb shell paint. luckily you can't see it for the hardware, but if you could, i'd touch it up with my trusty sharpie.|

|martec m8 cf fork from chucksbikes.com. the frame was to come with a threaded m3, but he threw this threadless m8 in for the asking. seems ok to me (like i would know any better?).|

|I like the Stealth look:-) If you ever want to put LOOK decals on it, let me know. I'll send you a couple of white downtube LOOK logos. Re: Cinelli I had the same problem. I found Cinelli's new gel tape is much stronger and doesn't tear as easy..|

|if you guys take cycle sport, a month or two ago they reviewed the new DA 11, with ride reports and shots done on a blue "shimano" bike. same frame/manufacturer. i think there were some small differences, but basically the same frame.|| |
