another worthless poll: more bikes or lovers?DougSloan

In your lifetime, have you had more bikes or lovers? Any significance to your answer? ;-)
They've become inversely proportional. (nm)PseuZQ

define lovers?cyclist of all trades

if you mean sex partners of the female persuasion it's:
some where over 50 vs 15 bikes

although it could be said I've had a much fun on the bikes as opposed to the other option.
Statistics show that hetero men have, on average, twice asbill
Sep 25, 2003 12:24 PM
many partners over their lifetime as hetero women.
Does anyone but me see a problem here?
Some women must be working overtime (nm)litespeedchick
Sep 25, 2003 12:39 PM
Well, no, because even if it were one very, very tired woman, bill
Sep 25, 2003 12:49 PM
the averages still should equal.
Even if not one very, very tired woman but a statistically significant bunch of not quite so but still very tired women that are in hiding, or are deaf mute, or are otherwise unable to report, thereby skewing the figures, one possible theory is that men overreport a bit, women underreport. Imagine that.
Average VS. Medianlitespeedchick

You're right...they must mean median.

The disturbing thing to me is, that you and I are discussing math while others are discussing sex.

I AM NOT A NERD. no matter what my husband says.
Average VS. Median -- no, they do mean average. that'sbill

the problem with the (self-reported) data.
Or under reporting their #sJFR
Sep 25, 2003 4:07 PM
Drunk one-nighters don't count, right?

Of course, men on the other hand are over reporting cause they think it makes them cool. Just ask "cyclist of all trades" (j/k).
Mars, Venus, let's call the whole thing off . . .djg
Sep 25, 2003 12:45 PM
These are self-reporting statistics, right?

I think that the fuzzy ones lie sometimes by exagerating (my wife, Morgan Fairchild) whereas the comfy ones lie sometimes by discounting (like a Virgin). It's not a problem, it's just the way it is.
I think most of you have slept with the same woman. nmKristin

The 90% of the lovers were spread out over 15 year period and 90% of the bikes are over a 5 year period.
That confirms it!Kristin

To all the bikes I've loved before

Raleigh Touring 18
You were my first. You taught me so much about myself and life. I shall never forget all the wonderful times we shared.

Cannondale R800
You and your sew-ups showed me I could go fast. I dressed you in Dura-Ace and you took me to the podium. May you rest in peace.

Cannondale M800; AKA the Purple People Eater
We shared plenty of good times and lots of scrapes and scratches. You always liked it rough. I'm sorry for leaving you in the car without it being locked. I hope your new owner is treating you well.

Specialized Stump Jumper (red)
You loved to flirt, but you were all bark and not enough bite. You couldn't handle the pressure, and you cracked. Don't feel bad, you were replaced for free.

Specialized Stump Jumper (blue)
You went to the other side of the world with me and met my needs on a daily basis. You were very practical. I don't blame you for wanting to stay in Japan. $300 is outrageous for a one way ticket in a cardboard box.

Specialized S-Works M2
Old habits die hard.

Ibis Mojo
You were my first and only time to play in the dirt with custom steel. Your parents are gone, but I promise I will look after you and keep you safe.

Bianchi Super Sport
You became mine from a good friend. Though we may have our differences, you still often find your way into my thoughts on rainy days.

Lemond Zurich
We were, and still are, a perfect fit. You excite me. You're soft and sweet and not the least bit temperamental. You really know how to show a guy a good time.

Quintana Roo Tiphoon
I love the look of your bare skin. You are sooo fast and sexy. Oh wow! . Stop! . Don't! . Don't stop!

Man, I really need to socialize more.

Sep 25, 2003 1:35 PM
Most of them rode bikes.
I started riding bikes before I rode women.
I've many times ridden a bike to the place I'd ride women.
I've successfully wooed women on my tandem, then had to get different tandems to suit my woman.

What a ride it has been (and continues to be).
At least 3x as many bikes (nm)OffTheBack

I have had more lovers than bikes by a wide margin. But with the bikes its always more than one at the same time while the lovers its only 1 at a time.

...*ahemmmmm*...some years later. I don't think it's a fair comparison.
I have an old steel marinoni that is absolutely gorgeous. Her name is May (after her emerald green colour). My GF is a little jelous of May but it comes with the territory I suppose. When she gets really mad she tells me that May and I can sleep on the couch together.
Girls and bikes...Bikes and Girls...the lines are getting blurry.
The score is 10-9 ... I'm not going to tell you who's winning ;)

Well, if you're talking about bikes I've posessed but not bought myself, then I believe it's 8. Bikes I've bought myself, 1. Lovers, 1. I had some little red thing that is about a foot high for my first bike, then some goofy looking turquoise thing. After that, it was a bike bought from our neighbor. Then I got my first new bike, a Gary Fisher Maniac. That was eventually replaced by a Specialized Hard Rock. That got stolen out of the back of my car in my driveway, so that was replaced with a Specialized Hard Rock Comp FS. Then, I got my first "road" bike, a Trek 520. My most recent acquisition is my only bike now and that is my Pegoretti Fina Estampa. That is of course the one I payed for myself. As for women, there's only been one. First and only kiss and everything since. But then again, I'm 17 so I'm quite alright with being low on the lover count.

Final score: 8-1 in favor of bikes.

P.S. Does anyone here get excited when "spreading wheels" is mentioned? That might be scary...

that you can ride her hard, then put her away without giving her another thought for as long as you like. You can maintain her, or not; she's still yours. You can have more than one and none of them complain. You can upgrade any part on her for a few hundred bucks, even the whole frame for a couple grand. Try doing that on a woman.

I had more lovers, and the use of that word does kind of creep me out after Will Farrell's SNL skits, after I started riding a bike. Must have been the biker musk or something, or maybe the look of fitness or the improved endurance and energy level. I'm still trying to figure out which cost more. I think it's the bikes.
