|Should I get a new helmet ?||HouseMoney|

|There's a sleek new helmet (Limar) on the shelf at one of the bike shops near me that keeps calling my name. I'm facing a want/need dilemma.
I'm currently using a Bell Evo2 Pro helmet that used to be my mountain biking helmet. I probably bought it 4-5 years ago (the date on the label inside the helmet is Sept 1998). I used it for 2-3 years before I retired it for a new helmet with better retention. I dug it out of my closet, took the visor off, and since last November it's been my road helmet (for road riding, it stays put). I've had no head-first serious off-road (or road crashes), but is has been dinged by low hanging branches and some rolling tumbles. No cracks in the plastic, but there are a few indents in the exterior foam.
Should I consider a new helmet (need vs. want) or is that "2 year lifespan" thing just a marketing gimmick.
As for fit, the Limar seems to be similar to Bell, only lighter. Giro, Garneau, and Specialized don't fit my noggin.

1. You want it. I understand - a Limar called my name too
2. Your present helmet is 5+ years old
3. Your present helmet, though not crashed, has been hit
4. You want it
Go buy it. Today. Support your LBS! (see one post down)

plus you have used it pretty hard.
Either keep it as a rare-use back-up (if you crash your new one), or cut the straps & throw it away.
