Here's a picture of the new Home Depot Training Center Velodrome under construction in Carson, CA. It will be the first covered velodrome in the US, scheduled to open for Jr World's in '04.

WOW! that's literally in my G.F.'s backyard. You've got to hand it to Home Depot, they've certainly forked over the $$$ for this Olympic Training center. I think the Women's World Cup was held there last week.

So anyone know how many velodromes there are in the country? Isn't the number something like 11 or 12?
Home Depot didn't pay for it, they're just the title sponsorTJeanloz

Like all corporate named stadiums, the named company didn't actually fork over all of the money necessary to build it. In this case, Home Depot laid out a lot less than it cost to build. Still, kudos to them for supporting the US Olympic mission.
Is that a replacement for the Cal Sate Dominguez track?OffTheBack

There used to be a really nice velodrome at Cal State Dominguez Hills (which I think is in or near Carson) that was built for the '84 Olympics. I don;t know what became of it though - was it torn down? Is this one on the same site? Thanks for any info.

The 1984 Olympic Velodrome was leveled when the Home Depot center was built last year. The new indoor velodrome is in the same area, but not the same exact location. The velodrome will be called the 'ADT Event Center'.

There was a REALLY big stink made by the trackies in the area. So much so, that the builders of the new soccer stadium that is on the site of the old velodrome were forced to replace the velodrome elsewhere on the site.

I can't wait to try it out!

When are 04 JR Worlds? My buddies daughter (last name Veenstra) lives and trains out there. Hope she gets to ride on it before the 04 Olympics.

Unfortunately, the track in Atlanta is now closed (hopefully not permenantly). I love racing there.
