Eight Spanish riders pose in the buff
By Hernán Alvarez Macías
Miguel Martín Perdiguero, Oscar Sevilla, Aitor González, Santos González, Alejandro Valverde, Jorge Ferrio, Juan Horrach and José Enrique Gutiérrez posed (almost) nude for the Spanish magazine Interviú. The magazine appeared yesterday in Spain, and it was the big news of the Vuelta's rest day within the peloton. The riders posed in five controversial pictures, using bikes to cover up some of the finer details. The title of the article is, "We won't let Spanish cycling become naked".
The mentor of the idea, Miguel Martín Perdiguero, told Spanish radio "We did it because we want to be known and we want to help Spanish cycling, and maybe this is helpful." It was an answer to the current difficulties faced by many Spanish cyclists following the exit of iBanesto and ONCE, combined with the number of Spanish riders that are competing in foreign teams.
The magazine will put these riders on the spotlight with the hope that the national media will pay more attention to them. But it's reported that so far in this edition of the Vuelta, the TV ratings have not been outstanding.
OK, so who gets YOUR vote? ;)

|My instinct would say Aitor.
Now if they had recruited Igor G. de Galdeano for the shoot, I'd fly to Spain to pick up a copy!
Thank you weiwentg, you are a treasure.

as someone else said, that's why we have models (who presumably would be disadvantaged in a bike race). most people don't look good enough naked to get into magazines, anyway.
my vote, since I asked, would be the tall guy second from right in back (is that Valverde?).
oh yeah, and I think Tyler looked worse - almost concentration camp-ish.
|let's just say I *look* healthier ;-) nm||DougSloan|

|I'm still envious of their climbing.
Interestingly, even the road race sprinters like Cipo have emaciated girly-man upper bodies.

|I think that the riders look as they should - professional male cyclists typically are of 3-5% body fat. And since when does the cosmetic appeal of an athlete's body matter? If the riders weren't "healthy" and were indeed "emaciated", could they really ride half the races they do?
Besides, I think that the riders kind of look like Greek statues... you know, the most concrete form of ideal beauty? As for the girly-man upper body, I wouldn't want to test any of those riders on that. I'm sure that any one of those riders would have no problem taking it to you.
But hey, may be you just don't find leaness very attractive. Maybe you're more of a Chippendale's kind of guy.

|during cycling season! yikes!! between the shorts/jersey tans, the glow-in-the dark white skin, and the under-nourished look i don't know how they keep the women back! ;-P
i like my guys lean but there's lean and then there's LEAN

|Apparently it's as difficult to look good naked is it is to race bicycles up mountains. Being lean and fit is a good start, but clearly isn't enough.|

|the short guy standing in the middle. Maybe they should have just photographed their legs?
Is that Sevilla on the far right? If you can cover it up with a brake lever....?

|my tastes don't run towards 12-year-old boys anyway, no matter how old they *really* are.
That's Valverde 2nd from right, the tallest one. Hubba, hubba hubba! Bike tan or no bike tan, wrap him up and I'll take him home.
Pic is a tad blurry indeed, tho the guy 2nd from left, kneeling has got some amazing legs.
who needs pecs anyhow.

|These guys all have that sickly, ET phone home look. I heard that a pack of vultures began to gather at the photoshoot. No, I want muscles, muscles, muscles. Someone else can have the pro-racers. Sure, my man won't climb fast, but is that all bad? I might beat him to the top on occasion.|| |
