| wow, BIG step up! | Mike P Sep 22, 2003 8:17 AM | | Big step. . . yes, it took a some time to work up the nerve to get it out for the first ride. It's not much lighter than the raleigh; I'd say it is less than 1lb. lighter. Around 16 lbs on a non-accurate, pounds only, scale. The biggest difference, other than the name and paint, is how stiff the thing is. There is a difference; I have not been able to get that flex feel on any of the steep hills here.
Last week I told my raleigh not to worry, it would be going with me for the 6-Gap. After riding the merckx though I do not see how a can't ride the merckx. So how should I break the news to the raleigh? Don't tell?

| It took me a second but I got it... | biknben Sep 22, 2003 8:01 AM | | To be honest, I think I saw 2010 before I saw 2001. 2001 was a bit slow for me. Like watching Star Trek in slow motion.
I did a book report on 2001 when I was in the 7th grade. Ahh...memories!!! |

| What a great new bike announcement! | JFR Sep 22, 2003 2:58 PM | | That was very creative and fun!
I love the blue! Too bad you're not totally sure about it. Give it time. Expectations are funny, and can (obviously) effect first impressions... apparently you were expecting something a little different.
I think your Merckx looks MARVELOUS! The blue is absolutely GORGEOUS! I know you'll come around. |
| Thanks, JFR! The color is what I was expecting. It's just the | Mike P Sep 22, 2003 5:37 PM | | clearcoat is actually rippled a bit on the rear triangle; perhaps sprayed a bit thick. I don't look back there much anyway so I am fine with it. I guess the only reason I mentioned it was I have seen many other frames built by others and the paint is flawless.
I still can't stop looking at it; the blues change as the light conditions change. I can't stop wanting to go ride it; somehow I ended up with nearly 100 extra miles last week.
