The hub in the Rolf Vector Comp front wheel that came stock on my '99 Lemond Zurich has developed a nasty creaking sound. I checked/lubed the bearings. They are fine. I think it's related to the axle fit in the hub body. I am able to tighten the bearing preload enough (too much) to the point that the bearings turn rough. The hub still creaks quite a bit even when the bearing preload is over tightened. If I back off on the preload for smooth spin it creaks even more. What can I do? Any suggestions? Sep 21, 2003 1:04 PM | | Are you sure it isn't just creaking in the dropouts? I had the same wheel and same problem (likely same fork) a few years ago- the LBS actually wrapped a rubber band around it for their jerry-rigged "fix." |
