i generally go to paragon sports and sids bike shop, any suggestions of alternate places to shop?

i usually go to sids, otherwise i usually mail order... EBAY baby... what kinda gear u have in mind?? road? mountain?

Agree with Uprwstsdr - at least for clothesBrianNYC

Better selection (more options) and prices (e.g. private label clothes) once you realize that Performance (what I've tried, I am sure other private label stuff is good too) bibs are as if not more comfortable than Assos or Castelli or whatever other name brands NYC LBS's stock.

That being said, my experience is that name brand clothes and are priced similarly at NYC LBS's as on line, unless someone online is having a sale.

Other kinds of accessories (e.g., pump, trainer) online, more choices and pricing that is usually, but not always, better.
