My girlfriend just got a temporary assignment in Toronto, so rather than her fly home, I'm flying out there. Hope to see the Elite Men's TT and Road race. Who else is going? I saw Globalhelipimp posted saying he was going but no one else. Any change? GHP? Wondering about tickets. Think you need them or can I catch the race from the roadside anywhere on the course for free?

its free to stand anywhere along the way, grandstands are overpriced for what you get, stand along the downhill or uphill don't stand anywhere close to the grand stands its sooo boring and flat there. its a climbing course so you know there isn't going to be a sprint finish
Awesome, thanks for the inside scoop. . .js5280

Having the big screen at the grandstands is nice, but wasn't sure if putting out C$70-150 would be worth it or not. I think I'd rather find a good climb and catch them there/snap some photos. Thanks again!

The hill sections of the course also require tickets to watch the race.

of course it's only a 1 hour drive from me.
Not sure about tickets. I'm having that same debate myself. I'm willing to spend the money if the experience is worth it but i'm hesitant.
Yeah, I'm going, somewhat reluctantlyAllUpHill

It's going to be huge hassle -- way too much driving crammed in two days. But, a major "European" race only comes to North America once in, say 90 years, so what are you going to do? I have no tickets, no plans, no inside knowledge. Just a hotel reservation in a city near Hamilton. I need to start planning a little more.

From Hamiltonians or other savvy readers, some advice on where to park, how to get around town, etc. etc. would be appreciated. My buddy and I are packing bikes in case it's necessary to ride to the course from the next town or some such. Somehow I think the amount of crowding and congestion will be beyond all comprehension.

I'm going. It's about a 1 hour drive each way from Buffalo so it shouldn't be too bad. My tickets arrived in the mail yesterday and came with info on parking and transportation. I got the "Silver" tickets $75C so I have access to the Claremont climb. There will be signs posted on the QEW and 403 telling you which exits to take and directing you to 3 large parking lots for a total of 10,000 vehicles(remember where you parked). Parking fees are $10C and your parking receipt or event ticket gets you on to a shuttle bus that takes you to and from the course. Also no bikes are allowed in ticketed areas and must be locked at bike check location.
