Why is every road stem and handlebar black? I think a silver metallic stem/bar looks so much nicer, especially since most other components are silver.

I agree, I don't like black bike parts. But they are starting to push the weight envelope with a lot of this stuff, and the shot peened black surface (used by some of them anyway) is supposed to improve fatigue life. But I think it's also fashion, and maybe it's cheaper, too. You can still get Thomson stems in silver. I don't know of any bars, though. I still ride with old school Cinelli bars/stems.

...maybe purple anodized will make a big comeback, looks like day-glo isn't dead yet either (makes sense for safety I suppose, otherwise, uggh).

we're no better than a bunch of grade-school fashionistas...; )

luckily, I think all that Ringle and Kooka junk from the mid-90s has broken by now...
