I did my first Rose Bowl ride last and had a great time. Too bad it was too short, I got dropped on the third lap. Although the incline wasn't that bad by itself, at 23-25mph I just couldn't hang on. I didn't arrive early enough to get in a good pre-ride warm up, I wanted to work up a could sweat.

I still weigh 245lbs, and I think I will need to drop 20lbs, before I will be able to do 10 laps at the "slow" Thursday night pace. This was my first time riding with such a large group of riders, and I felt comfortable, and was able to hold my line w/o any problems.

I have the Astale computer w/cadence, and my cadence was incredable. In the 53/15,17 gear, not sure which one I was in, my cadence was 135. In those gears, I never have seen 100. Incredible what you can do when you must put the hammer down. My engine felt real strong, but the lard got in the way.

ps, not sure a great warm up would have helped, I have never ridden with such intensity before, but I will be back.

When I first came back to cycling after an eight year layoff
there was a local hill that I had to push my bike up every
time I encountered it.

The other day, after losing about 20+ pounds I was riding up
it at 24+ mph.

So keep at the riding - the weight will come off and it will
make every difference.

I still have a ways to go but at least I can do it now
without too much agony.
