They added extra layers of PLY carbon to the seat stays for more stiffness. They added more to the bottom tube as well but not as much as the stays. The top half is one piece instead of seperate lugs. Same for the bottom

yeah I will be putting my Dura Ace pedals on it when I go out. Those were on it just so some of the shop employess could bang around the parking lot on it. Very cool folk at the shop

From the looks of the photo, and discounting the "faring" on the seattube, it looks like this bike has longer than average chainstays. What's the wheelbase on the Madone?
Some advice on getting sharper pictures ..globalhelipimp

Place the bike in sunlight or some form of direct light,
rather than in the shade. Make sure your shutter speed is
1/60sec or greater (ie. 1/125sec) and make sure your
focusing on the correct part of the bike that you want (using your LCD). Some digital cameras even have
red "brackets" that appear on the LCD to show which part
is in focus.

I don't mean to be picky, but I figured if you're going
back to get more pictures, you might want some friendly
RBR advice. When I first started using my Nikon Coolpix
5000, my pictures came out somewhat like that. After
using it quite a bit, I figured the ins and outs and my photos are 10x better now than before. Going to school
for photography has helped too .. :)

You said there was a lot more ply on the seat tube and that Lance didn't like this one. I was wondering if that why it seems so stiff. Have you guys weighed the frame or bike at the lbs. Do you have 10 sp. dura ace on there?
i thought there was vaseline on the lens ;*(nm)ColnagoFE

Just so I can look less Fred like. Can somebody give me a pronunciation for Madone.

I bet it's not "Mad One". I've never heard it said, only seen it in writing.

Did they let you kids out of school early today?CARBON110

Thanks Global for the suggestions, it was the shops camera. I did not bring one since I knew they had one. they did prewarn me it wasnt high quality. I belive its Ma-done. They used 12 layers of play as opposed to 8 in the production Frames and the one Lance used at the TDF

The Madone and 5900 share the same geometry. Chainstays measure 40.8/16.1 However the 5500 and 5200 are 41.0/16.1 according to Trek

That's hard to describe on a board.
I think "Ma - Donn" is pretty close.

This is the french word for Madonna (the original one, not the pop star).

Just had mentioned that this bike was at the TDF, I'm wondering why it wasn't badged with the USPS logo on the seat stay? Especially since it was a prototype, and not a production model.

I heard Trek aren't selling USPS badged bikes any more as the Post Office wanted royalties which make the bike too expensive. So we with USPS OCLV's - collector's items!!!!

Right...that's why I doubt this Madone was for lance. Cane Creek headset, no USPS decals...looks more like an early production model.
