How many parts does a bike have?DougSloan

As I was (re)reading Zinn's book in the "library," I was thinking about the exploded view of an entire bike. Made me wonder about how many parts a bike has -- not components, but pieces, if you were to totally take apart every piece possible. For example, a chain has about 102 or so links, but each link has two side plates, two pins, two rollers, etc. So, can someone figure out how many parts a bike has? Any guesses? I'm figuring well over a thousand. Just the parts in hubs and shifters probably total several hundred...

1 frame
1 fork
2 rims
2 tubes
2 tires
64 spokes
64 nipples
1 handlebar, etc.

Mine has a little spinner thingy on the stem, a few baseball cards smacking the spokes, the tall flag with barney's picture on it and and little flashy tassles on the bar ends.

Have a great day.
Why not take a spare Bianchi completely apart ?Continental
