I saw the first road cycling wreck I have seen...shakyfish

This girl lays down her Giant in some gravel going downhill about 30mph. She was not wearing a helmet and she got a nasty cut on the back of her head. She was a little out of it but could tell us her phone #. We called 911 and they carted her off. I think she will be fine but the no helmet decision is always a bad one. I know at least 95% of avid road cyclist wear them but if you don't this is what you get or worse. She actually probably would have pedaled away from the wreck possibly with a helmet on. She had some road rash but nothing else was major wrong. I have seen this girl many times riding the route I take with no helmet. I do hope she is OK.

Don't be that girl.

Ride smart. Be safe.

Couldn't agree more; I was hit by a pickup during yesterday's ride and the back of my helmet is toast. Head=OK. I will be buying a new one this morning and won't leave home without it!

JoeA,

Good to hear you are OK. Check with the helmet manufacturer, most will replace a wrecked helmet for free.

Worth checking out, but most manufacturers gutted that policy in the mid-90's, in favor of less-costly discounts for replacements (usually around 20% or so). Can't hurt to ask, though.
