stupid newbie question about my sore buttJHinVA

I bought my first road bike a few weeks ago and have a few hundred miles on it. It's a new Klein Q-Carbon Race. I have the stock seat on it, and I ride with standard 8 panel shorts w/ chamois that seem to fit well and are comfortable. I don't get pain in my butt bones, however, I seem to get saddle sore (or is just chafing?) when I ride for 40-50+ miles. It doesn't seem to happen when I keep it down to around 30 miles. I don't know if I need better shorts or a different saddle, or I'm wearing the wrong thing under my shorts (standard Jockey's). The stock saddle on my bike is a Cruz+, which I've never even heard of. Or, would changing the saddle position help? How do I figure out what needs to be done? I don't think I have any LBSs that will let me spend a day swapping saddles around to try them, and even if they did, it takes a long ride for me to start hurting (>2hrs). This last time I rode 50 miles, I just got rubbed raw down there, but it was better than the time before, when I got an actual sore that bled a bit and took about 3-4 days to heal.

I'm not loaded enough to go out and drop $100 each on versions of saddles and shorts. Also, I'll be riding my first century in about 6 weeks, so I want to be as comfortable as possible.

Some other specs, if they help... I'm 37yrs, 6'2", 190lb, and ride a 61cm compact geometry frame with carbon seat stays.

You are not supposed to wear jack under your shorts. That chamois goes right on your arss. Also try rubbing some triple antibiotic on your arss before and after your ride to heal up the existing sores.

That's the name of the product by Paceline. It helps prevent chafing that can occur on long rides, even with good shorts, good saddle fit and proper "commando" attitude.

There are other, similar products that others prefer: Udder Balm, Bag Balm, etc.
