Tacx or Minoura Mag Trainer?(4 posts)

Tacx or Minoura Mag Trainer?Mr Nick

I asked about trainers awhile ago and had come to the conclusion that I would get a 1up. Well sine then some things came up and I can now only afford $110-$150. So I am looking at two mag trainers at supergo. Either the $100 minoura 850 or the $159 tacx t1460. According to the salesman both units are pretty similar and the only real difference is the cable on the tacx to allow for tension setting while on the bike. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with either of these and could give me some input?

I got my Tacx yesterday in the mail and did my first work out tonight. It is really nice and I thought worked great. Had a nashbar fluid, and it was too easy, this thing really has some resistance. I'm doing intervals on it to get ready for cross season, so it will definately get quite a bit of use. Get it from Supergo, they've got them for $149.00.

I broke my wrist a few months back and used the minoura trainer while I was in a cast. I can't remember the model number, but it was a rim/roller kind of thing...I liked it - loud, but probably not as loud as those that ride directly on your rear tire...also won't wear your tire...a significant advantage I would think. Anyway, liked it....the only problem I had was that I kept forgeting to release the rollers from my rim and they would deform between work-outs....not a big deal really, 5 minutes into my next "ride" the flat spots (two opposing rollers on your rear rim) would work themselves out - of course I'd just forget again and have to go through the process each time :( but that's just me...

Never heard of the Tacx btw

I have the Minoura Mag. It's a really good deal, I looked at some CycleOps trainers that were around $250, the $90 (on sale) Minoura Mag works just as well. The rest of the money I saved I might put towards some rollers this winter.
