Did they spray the crowd with water?ms
Aug 26, 2003 5:51 AM
When I have seen the Aquarel trucks in the Alps and Pyrenees, they were spraying the crowd with a fine mist of water. But last year (2002), they were not doing it in Paris, even though it was hot on the Champs Elysees (and I am sure you were even hotter this year). My 11 year old daughter told me after we saw the Tour last year that her perfect summer job when she "grows up" would be to spray water on people from the Aquarel truck at the Tour. Come, to think of it, I would like that job, too.

They were spraying the crowds in Bordeaux. And fans were spraying them back with other Aquarel bottles. I didn't see any on the Champs Elysees although I wasn't on the fence on the road so perhaps.. It wasn't that bad on the last stage, it was very hot when I arrived in Paris and some of the first stages in the Pyranees but the final weekend was fairly reasonable.

there were several Aquarel trucks, one had hoses and sprayed water all over. Camera was hidden when that one went by.

Maybe because you are a jackass Leonnard. Try again; the pictures are there... Do not ruin a great post like this with inane comments in the middle.

The street has speakers every few hundred feet and you can hear what is going on (Knowing French is higly recommended at this point). In between anouncements there is music. The first sign that the racers are approaching is all these official cars. By now the helicopters are also above but they are very high and not so noisy as I expected.

I will only post two pictures of the race. Since any web site will have better pictures than mine the idea is to show the typical view a spectator would have. This is Baden Cooke (in green) being leadout by his team mates closely followed by Zabel. The sprint is just up ahead.

here we have current UCI and World Cup leader Mr. Paolo Bettini in 5th position in the picture. The riders would go by 18 times (9 laps). My digital camera has a delay from the time you press the button to the time it actually takes the picture. It was very difficult to get a picture of a particular rider at close range.
