But you *could* look at housing prices, say eg the price of apartments in Manhattan, NYC. I read a couple of months ago that, in the latest 3-month period, the average sale price in completed apt sales was over $800,000 for the first time (and well over, too). |

| Not at all. | MB1 Aug 25, 2003 4:58 AM | | I am always amazed at how good a bicycle you can buy for your money. Even $300 bikes are equipped so much better than they were 30 years ago when I started working in bike shops.
The equipment on $600 bikes is better than anything you could buy at any price 20 years ago.
$4000 bikes have always been a tiny part of the bike market. More to dream about than to ride. That so many people can afford $4000 bikes (or even $10,000 bikes) shows how well things are going. |

| No argument with any of your points.... | bicyclerepairman Aug 25, 2003 3:09 PM | | I live in the San Francisco bay area, and there are 3 (maybe more) 'boutique' type shops where the low end they sell varies between $1,300 to $1,800. The sport has always supported pro shops in more urban areas...these very exclusive shops seem to be a fairly new phenomena. |
