I rode my new Giant Revive today for the first time. I started out at the coffee shop below Hotel Sausalito across from the fountain in downtown Sausalito. I brought my mp3 player loaded with Warren Zevon songs. It was nice to have the songs along to get my mind off the heat and the sweating. My goal was to ride up the hill to the Golden Gate Bridge. I think maybe I was pushing it a little bit. I should have tried to find a flatter route. I drive up it in my car, and it take less than five minutes when I drive. It is about 2.5 miles up hill. I was kind of wobbly, but Sausalito is a very friendly city, so many people were kind to me. I felt safe. I know I am going to need a headband. I was sweating a lot. The sweat would roll down my forehead and burn my eyes. I had to walk up part of the hill. I felt like I was out of my league. I think I should have tried something simpler. The area of California I live in is very hilly. It is going to challenge me. I made it to the Golden Gate Park. There were lots of bike riders everywhere. There is a heat wave today. Hotter than normal. I rode South down Bridgeway, and took the hill up Alexander Avenue. I did not make it up the hill on the bike. I had to walk up it. It gets very steep at two points. Driving the bike back down was scary but there was a lot of traffic so I just stayed behind the car in front of me. I kept squeezing my brakes. I am afraid of the front brake. I was afraid that it would cause me to wipe out. I went 17 miles an hour! I don't think I can ever make it up on a bike. I bought a Camelback Blowfish at the shop today with the bike. It is a bit snug fitting. I am glad I got the larger water size. I drank a lot of it. I sweat a lot. It will come into good use. I am glad the local shop talked me into buying it. I was soaking wet with sweat at the end of the ride. The bike rode very nice. I like how comfortable is. It feels like a natural positon. My Sears ten speed when I was fifteen was not comfortable. This bike is much more comfortable. At $600 it will be worth the investment if I get my life and health back. I like the bike computer. It is cool that I can see so much about what is going on with it.

I've only had a dedicated road bike for less than a year.
A Giant OCR1.

I've moved from Texas to Hawaii and am really getting way more road than mountain miles now--quite a switch-but addicting and fun.

Been doing weekend rides with the Hawaai Bicycling League. Have dropped some weight.

Find a good group and have fun.

Many are going to tell you not to ride with music, I agree (nm)maximum15
