|Any of you do things like this?
During the month of July in reverence to the Tour, I refuse to ride in a car unless it is absolutely necessary. Commute to work, commute to church, grocery store, you name it.
During the month of October, in reverence to the Ironman WC, I ride 112 miles, run 26.2 and swim 2 miles each week.
On my birthday, I pick something new to do such as, run 26.2 miles to a local mountain top, run a portion of the Appalacian trail, a midnight 45 mile ride or etc...
On January 1, be running or riding when the new year rolls in ...
On the actual day that my kids were born, I went to the LBS and picked out a cycling cap and jersey for them to save until they are old enough to fit into them...
On our 10th year anniversary, my wife (the best in the world BTW) she and I did a team triathlon. I bought her a trophy and paid off the race organizer to present it to us in a special award. Very cool.
In June, to celebrate the last day of school, I rigged up a shopping cart to my mountain bike and road through the neighborhood and my work and delivered icecream.
I need some fresh ideas. What are some of the special events you do?

|But in a great way! This world has way too many "normal" people.
My club does an annual Christmas ride where we wrap our bikes and dress up like Santa/elves/reindeer. We also do a toy donation. We get many waves and honks that morning! :-)

|I'll admit to hitting a critical mass ride every now and then. Love them or hate them, I admire all the massers passion about bikes (and its got a little freakshow appeal)...
As far as the shopping cart thing goes, I'll tow the neighborhood kids around in the Burley at an upcoming block party. Gotta' get them introduced to bikes as a young age!

|Here are a few more ideas...
Commute everywhere on a bike on the day of a Spring Classic and during May and September (Giro and Vuelta).
During an Olympic year, try a new olympic sport, such as fencing or similar.
Name your children after famous cyclists.

|I especially like the Olympic year idea.
As far as the kid's names, I am no longer in the market for new ones. Perhaps there has been a famous Ian or GG. But, we do replace a lot of fish in the aquarium, I could cover a peleton's worth of names within a few months.
