2003 Specialized Allez Comp Cr-Mo 27. I went to my LBS and rode it for a good hour. I felt fery comfortable and liked how it rode. The shop is going to sell it to me for $1650. FYI: I'm 6"3", 230, and a very powerful guy. What are your feelings on this particular bike?

It's a good bike, but you should be able to get a better deal than that on it right now. It's getting towards the end of the model year and bikes should be going on sale now.

The price isn't really that great. The bike has an advertised retail of $1800. That means (and this is a best guess, but a relatively informed one) that wholesale is most likely around $1300 for that bike. If the shop has your size and doesn't need to special order it, you should offer them between $1500 and $1550. They should be able to easily come down a hundred bux on that bike at this time of year.

Just a little advice... take it or leave it...

Agreed that it's a nice bike and you might be able to do a tad better on price.

Two questions related to your being a big guy: 1) Columbus Foco's a lightweight steel, and the tubing doesn't look very oversized. I wonder if the frame would be stiff enough in the BB. If you haven't already, I'd try some sprints and steep climbs on test rides, to see if the frame flexes too much. 2) The Shimano wheels don't seem to have a lot of spokes for a 230-pounder. Maybe I'm a retrogrouch, but I'd research them before buying.
