Hello, I'm looking for riders in the upper east side of NJ, I live in "Union County", and I'm a beginner, and I'd like to join some riders to push me harder and to teach me things. I'm willing to travel a bit. So if anyone knows of some clubs, or individual riders.

rubrndc19, I am in essex county and am a beginner as well, I have been riding about a month, I usally go out by myself during the week and maybe hook up with a ride from the local bike shop on weekends. Shoot me an e-mail and we can hook up for a ride.

I know of three good shops in that area. You should call thembill

and tell them what you're looking for. Try the different rides and you'll end up hooked up.
One is High-Gear Cyclery in Stirling, http://www.highgearcyclery.com, another is the Millburn Bike Shop and another is the Cranford Bike Shop. I think that there's a shop in Westfield as well -- the last time I was riding up there, I ran into a guy who said that he had just missed hooking up with a ride in Westfield on a Sunday a.m. My brother (in Berkeley Heights) is hooked up with a riding club up there, and I know that they have Tuesday night rides, but I don't know anything about it. I'll bet that the shops could help with clubs as well.

I used to ride in Madison. It's near Morristown... It's a great area to get started. You can put together spectacular 20-30 mile rides no prob. Not too many climbes either. Although, ya gotta watch out for the deer up there. Many times we'd count over 75 head in a single ride. There's a huge wildlife reserve so depending on the time of day the auto traffic isn't too high. There's a public park where you start from. You can also combine some paved trail riding too. Avoid it on the weekends, it's just too damn busy...
