I own a 01 LeMond Nevada City "852 triangle with 525 chanin stays and steel fork and threaded stem". I bought the bike 12/02 and now have 4000mi on it. I paid $350 for the bike. Right away, I replaced the generic calipers with some 105's. Recently, I picked up a pair of Cane Creek aerohead wheels from Supergo for $219.00. I ride 100 miles during the week, and 40 to 80 miles on the weekend with the fellas.

I am not ready for a new bike, but ready to upgrade to better components. The bike has the Sora group. I want to go from a triple to a double, and hav e ordered a 105 crankset and bottom bracket. One of my buddies, say's I should buy the best components that I can afford, no less than Ultegra, and possibly an Dura-Ace 180mm crankset. I'm 6'4" with a 38.5in inseam.

Another buddy says that I am trying to dress up a pig, and should buy another bike, and not spend the money to upgrade the current one.

I think the upgrade will hold me for another year or so, and then I can put my components on a new frame.

Opinions and advice greatly appreciated...

You've got a perfectly good frame. 4k miles on a 2-year old bike is nothing. I'd suggest upgrading to Ultegra shifters. They'll last longer and work smoother.

You would never be able to notice the difference between a Ultegra crankset and the 105 set you ordered, so you're fine there. The 105 calipers are fine also.

If you have the money, you could save some weight by switching to a carbon fork. Don't expect a life-changing difference in the feel and handling though.

I'm not sure about the derailleurs.
