|After hearing your advice and encouragement I went home and switched my cog out and setup a 48/17. The wind was light but seemed to be in our favor and the ride is dead flat. We averaged 19.4 mph for the 107 miles.
The fixed made the ride more difficult than I thought. Being glued to the saddle can make the ride more painful. Since I was riding with a group they didn't give me much chance to slow up and stand and pedal to give the old crotch a break. At any rate, It was fun and I can now say I have done my first fixed century.
The ride was through a bunch of small towns in Delaware with names like Viola, Felton, and Wyoming. Through the course of the ride you cross the same train tracks at least 10 times, seems more like thirty.
