What songs are in your head when you ride? What's your favorite? What's the worst?

Lately my favorite has been Shake Some Action by the Flamin Groovies. The worst has been Happy Jack by the Who.

One of my riding buddies is a particularly vicious sort & tries to plant earworms all the time. Other than that, his riding etiquette is impeccable

how ya like me now? pretty good...goin' on, feelin' strong. (Beck)

I get lots of Beck, and recent Beastie Boys, in my head on shorter rides.

not so good:

most anything from J2's compliation CDs don't belong on a long ride. anything heard that morning or the prior evening from Blues Clues, Elmo, or Dora the Explorer videos--I can do without. i could go on for hours.

on a tough brevet early this year, alone..."Cool Blue Reason" by Cake. the tagline, over an over at the end of the chorus: "only 8 more hours to go...only 8 more hours to go...only-"

Good: The Three Fine Daughters of Farmer Brown by Eddie From Ohio

Bad: Theme to Thomas the Tank Engine "Thomas the tank engines rolling along..." Although I do feel very "useful" at the end of my ride

I get lots of songs in my head but the worst happened just a few weeks ago. Don't ask me how or why but I got the theme song to Gilligans Island in my head. It was there for a 3 hour+ tour of the local countryside.

On 7/30 I started a 117 mile ride around the Big Island of Hawaii. A few miles in guess what crept into my synapses? Riiiiight, Gilligan!!!!! Now, I was determined to rid myself of this insidious earworm and started to do a random search of the dusty file cabs in the back of my cerebelum. Again, don't ask why but I replaced Gilligan with Tommy, by The Who. 100 miles of Tommy, by The Who!
depends on my cadence that daySao

On a good day -- salsa. Bad day, ballads.

REALLY bad day -- "Help Me" -- Joni Mitchell.

being a member of the female persuasion, I often hear Fat Bottomed Girls by Queen... "Get on your bikes and ride!"

and of course the famous "BI-cycle, BI-cycle, BI-cycle... I like to ride my bicycle, I like to ride my bike, I like to ride my bicycle, I like to ride it where i like."

At first I was a little skeptical about doing that, but as long as I keep the volume low, I don't have any problems hearing traffic sounds. I listen to techno when I ride, sometimes a little punk too.

Just today I was thinking about this exact topic. I had "Box Set" by the Barenaked Ladies stuck in my head all day and though it used to be one of my favorite songs, I can almost not stand to hear it now. It's bad when the radio overplays stuff, but your own brain? It's against me.
(though it's odd because just thinking about it irritates me enough to make me go faster =) )

The song from Mary Poppins about kite flying with word changes to
"Let's go ride a bike, up to the highest heights, let's go ride a bike and send it soaring......"

The first time I thought of it I thought it was cute, now it gets in my head and won't go away, and hopefully I havn't just cursed you all with the same affliction.

Not a song, but rather Phil Ligget:

"Who would have thought this large man would so dominate the hills at this year's tour" or

"The big man from SoCal is coming down the finishing straight like a grand prix motor car".

Or something to that effect.

When I'm in a groove on slow solo rides, I often get "The Girl from Ipanema" or "Baubles, Bangles and Beads" stuck in my head.

With two little kids at home, I have the same problem as J. Too often, the F.U.N. song from Spongebob works its way into my brain.

I call 'em like I see 'em. And I see lots.

It also helps if you play a musical instrument to qualify the responses, I play bass guitar which lays down the foundation for the song [in bike riding terms, this is called cadence.)

Why just yesterday, I take the long way home up and over the mountain and just as I crest the the top of the ridge there is a gorgeous female getting out of her car. And all I can say is "Hi" and she says "Hi," and then I notice the dog and SO on the other side of the road.

I'm in love with the other woman
