Moving to SA this fall and want to know what most of you are riding in terms a gearing. I'm currently on a 53/39 w/12-23/25 in the rear. What is the terrain like in the local area? Are there any punishing hills? BTW, I'm a pretty good climber.
Thnx in advance.

There are some hilly rides around here. North of town (within reasonable riding distance - Comfort, Boerne, Sisterdale) there are some "punishing" hills. There's both the long grinding type climb and the short steep sprint type hills. There's also a race held at Fort Davis (a few hours drive away) in the Davis Mountains (elevation is 50ft. lower than Denver) and that's beyond punishing IMO. I rode a 13-29 for that one and almost died on that climb. I normally ride a 53-39 w/ an 11-23 cassette. I also have a 12-25. SA is a pretty good place to cycle, there's some fast group rides around, as well as some recreational ones and you can ride all year round. It's not a bad place to live. Where are you moving from?
