Tires for 27" wheelsMark II

I have a old Schwinn that has 27 X 1 3/8 tires installed. I am looking to replace the tires with something lighter/truer. Can the 27 X 1 1/8 be used?

Can anyone recommend a quality 27" tire.

Thanks in advance.

For size compatibility check with Sheldon Browns website at Harris Cyclery.
Yep, the 27" Conti 1000 works fine for most riding. -nmTig

Vittoria Phoenix (come in 27 x 1.25 or 1.125) tires aren't bad at the price...about $12...and have worked well on my fixie
