Extran vs. Ultima vs. Cytomax vs. Accelerade vs. GPush ...Tahoe Gator

Have a 8 hour race coming up at end of August and need to select a "during the event" hydration drink. Have always used Accelerade in the past, but in recent races I have found that when it gets hot Accelerade becomes far less palatable (no way to keep it cool that long). So, I am looking for a compliment or alternate and hoping to shortcut the "try them all" routine.

Keep in mind the usage: 8 hour race in hot weather.

Some info on each:

GPush Momentum - uses high-glycemic maltodextrin and low-glycemic galactose to create a 7.5% carbohydrate drink. (140 calories / 36g carbs per serving)

Cytomax - claims to have slow-burning carbs. Has proprietary "Alpha-L-Polylactate" which it claims minimizes lactate acid soreness during and after rides. (100 calories / 20g carbs per serving)

Ultima - has zero added surgar, but rather complex carbs plus minerals, electrolytes, vitamins, and anti-oxidants. (calories / carbs unknown)

Extran has two versions:
Extran Thirst Quencher - fructose and maltodextrian (90 calories, 22g carbs)
Extran Energy Drink Mix - contents, calories, and carbs unknown

Accelerade - 4:1 carb:protein ratio. (140 calories, 26g carbs, 6.5g protein, 1g fat)
I say just go with meth.collinsc

Just pick the tasty one. If youre going to be downing the stuff for 8 hours it better not taste like crap.

...no, not while *I'm* in heat.

Don't race though, so this is just my $.02.

The thirst quencher is your 7% solution.

The energy mix can be mixed in different strengths..up to 500 Cal servings, this is your big carb mix. It would be alot of liquid sugars though. Maybe mix it up with some solid food. I use the carb boxes sometimes, they are what you see used in the spring classics. 300 Cal of liquid love! Extran also makes a ~250Cal energy bar, also good to mix it up.

I was unable to continue drinking Extran Thirst Quencher after about 4 hrs which was disastrous on 2 occasions.

Ultima doesn't taste real good to me, but I can keep drinking it without getting nauseous or starting to hate the taste so much that I stop drinking it. A small squirt of HammerGel makes it a little more palatable.

I've not tried Accelerade.

Endurolyte Caps help me also. I take one if I'm thirsty for water only which does happen to me on brevet length rides.

The differences between the best and the worst probably matter less than whether or not you can and do drink it.
