|Yeah, I was thinking that comment was a bit too much as well. That stuff will mess you up man. You should hear stories as to how that stuff is made. You might think twice before putting it into your body.|

|well not sure about pot, I bet it would if you are competitive. There is a guy here that can ride me into the ground and he smokes ciggarettes.
Anyway, pot hurts more than just riding, if you are smoking pot I would be worried about other stuff that is more important than riding - like your life.
Bob Marley for eva.....

|At the age of 17 he was busy repairing a bicycle, as usual he was daydreaming, when he suddenly dropped his acetylene torch and started screaming. Some shards of hot metal had pierced his eye.
From a Bob Marley web site..... so if he fixed bikes he must have ridden them?

|yeah i'd think it'd have to. pot is not a performance enhancing drug. a "freind" who has smoked both pot and cigs at one time or another says that pot seems to affect the lungs less the day after but neither is gonna be great for you in the long term and definately not while riding--though there was this one crazy b@stard who toked up the morning before the mt. evans hillclimb to get rid of his hangover from the night before! He didn't have a great time, but I imagine the ride up to 14k feet was interesting.|

|Pot is less addictive than cigarettes. It also has some medicinal value. The general public is being told all wrong about this stuff.|

|I've searched before and never found any study showing adverse effects of pot smoking on athletic performance. Considering the bias against pot, I think that alone says something. My guess is that if it does hurt, it hurts a lot less than alcohol.
Also, beware that by asking you'll get a lot of overly emotional and negative reactions.

|Are you serious? I'm referring to smoking pot.
I don't smoke before or when I'm riding but do smoke occasionally.

|It's not going to help performance or your handling ability. If you decide to do it, please stay off the road. In my younger days friends & I would often go trail riding & smoking. We took a lot of breaks & rode slower than usual, but had a lot of fun. Bring plenty of water & food ;) Ride trails or paths that you would normally consider easy or moderate. Be safe.|

|(nice troll BTW...)
Hey, my parents voted to legalize MJ in 1972, so you can probably guess where my "head" is at when it comes to the "sensi." However, MJ always hurt my performance when it came to any sport, and affected my lungs & judgment.
Now, if you're talking about the "experience", and not performance, that's a different story...

|MJ is only psychologically addicting. It has no physiologically addicting agents, which means your only withdrawal if you quit is overcoming the mental urge to get high again. That is quite different from cigs, which contain the insanely addictive nicotine.
Smoking pot will affect performance because you are inhaling dense smoke into your lungs and leaving residue behind. That same gunk that clogs up your pipe and "water pipe" also builds up in your lungs. Your lungs then battle to recover and cleanse themselves, but in the meantime your ability to absorb oxygen is reduced.
I snap a J from time to time and I don't notice any substantial affect. I don't race though, and if I have less energy or a hard time breathing I just ride easier.
Careful if you're riding high - traffic can get funky to process.

|The local circuit race is notorious for having the weed crew racing in it. Most of the time they just slowly cruise around the 3.5 mile loop, but they do occassionally rip it up.
A friend of mine used to be part of that crowd, he swears it never hurt his racing. He did smoke once this year before a ride and he said it took away the pain in his legs. Supposedly he was able to put a hurtin' to the pack on the group ride. Can't say for sure since I wasn't there. Come to Brooklyn and you can see for yourself.
