|YOu are in charge of USPS cycling..you have the authority to hire and fire....Lance is most likely gone after 2004. So, who do you have your sights set on to replace LA as the team leader after next year? Or, do you go another route, do as Maepei (sp?) did in the past, go after the one day classics with a vengance and not worry about the TdF. You are in charge, what is your game plan?|

|I would definitely make an offer to hire Danielson. But his role would be to support Heras for a few years before becoming a GC hopeful. Heras deserves a chance at being the team leader and Danielson would do a great job riding shotgun before his turn at the wheel.|

|He seems to have the intestinal fortitude to get the job done. Option 2 would be to move Hera into the lead position. But stay in the TdF as a team to prove that the team can survive without Lance in the lead. I would also try to sign Lance up as advisor or team coach. Though some athletes make great athletes and only fair coaches. |
That is my 2 cents

|The team contract is up 2004.
Johan owns the team infrastructure such as the bus and mechanics truck--he leases them to the team.

|towards preparing to export the team to Belgium once Lance retires. Several months back, Johan already suggested that this would be one option if Postal drops out -- Berry Floor is a Belgian company, and I'm sure Bruyneel and his "Belgian Mafia" have people waiting in the wings.
Who knows, but Lance's shoes will be _awfully_ tough to fill and continuing the sponsorship will be pretty anticlimactic for Postal.
I don't really see any Americans capable of stepping in. Tyler seems pretty happy at CSC. I'm not even sure that immense sums of $$$ would get him to come over - I think he'll stay with CSC as long as Riis will have him out of gratitude to the confidence Riis has placed in him.
Perhaps Postal will have a serious chance of winning the Vuelta once Lance retires -- Heras would have everyone working for him for a change.
